Membership Eligibility
Eligible members include commissioned and retired law enforcement officers from a federal, state, county, municipal or tribal law enforcement agencies, as well as non commissioned members of any federal, state, county, municipal or tribal government agency having the responsibility of responding to and/or investigating homicides and/or deaths. This includes prosecutors, analysts, medical examiners and investigators, scientists and military UCMJ investigators and responders. An applicant’s membership qualification will ultimately be determined by the Executive Board.
The WHIA Network
When you join WHIA, you will become a part of a developing network of death investigation professionals. We will be expanding our website to include members-only resources such as an investigative content expert reference system.
This will give you access to people in the field of death investigation that have experience or expertise in specific investigative areas. For example, if you need investigative advice on developing leads in a particular social media application, you will be able to check our content expert references for someone with experience in that. If you are looking for an investigative content expert that we do not have a listing for, there will be a method of querying our membership for such a person.
Discounts at Training
Additionally, WHIA members will be eligible for a discounted rate at WHIA hosted training events. It is our intention to host a high quality, low cost, annual training event using a case presentation format, as well as smaller training events throughout the year. We are also going to seek out alliances with other associations to secure discounts at other training events not hosted by WHIA.
Membership Database
In addition to the connections you will make with death investigation experts at the training events, you will also have access to the membership database. This will give you a method of directly contacting an investigator in another part of the region, without having to go through multiple people before getting to the person you need to speak to.
Periodic Newsletter – email communications.
Periodically we will distribute a newsletter/email to the membership to update association issues, announce upcoming events, and disseminate new and important relevant information to our members.
NOTE: If you are registering to attend the annual conference you do not need to join as membership is included in conference tuition.
